The direct route via Mereenie Loop Road requires a permit and has 200km of dirt — sealed route via Stuart Highway and Lasseter Highway is longer but easier. Kings Canyon Resort is the only accommodation — book months ahead. The Rim Walk starts at dawn to avoid heat; carry 2L+ water per person.

Driving Tips

Stuart Highway south to Erldunda (200km), Lasseter Highway west briefly, then Luritja Road north-west to Kings Canyon. Erldunda and Kings Creek Station are the only reliable fuel — both roadhouse pricing (60–100 c/L above Alice). Ernest Giles Road is 2WD-unfriendly — do not attempt without a 4WD. Most visitors combine Kings Canyon with Uluru (3-hour direct link via Luritja and Lasseter Highways).
