November to April is realistic. Autumn Fagus (late April–early May) is extraordinary. Summer brings long days. Winter brings snow and genuine danger — chains required on the access road.

Local Tips for the Devonport to Cradle Mountain Drive

This is a 90-minute direct drive. Park pass ($35/person/day) required. Shuttle bus is mandatory in peak season (Oct–Apr) — park at the visitor centre. Wombats are everywhere at dusk — drive carefully. Dove Lake circuit is best clockwise, starting at 7am to beat crowds.
